Swiss startup BTRY has attracted attention in the industry by winning the 2026 HERMES Startup Award for developing ultra-thin and fully flexible solid-state batteries. These innovative batteries surpass classic lithium-ion cells with their fast charging capability, high-temperature resistance, and superior safety features.

    ### BTRY Battery Features
    • Ultra-thin design, with a thickness of only 0.1 mm
    • Completely flexible structure
    • Operating temperature up to 150 °C
    • Full charge and discharge time of only 1 minute
    • No toxic solvents used in the production process and low material consumption
    • Manufactured using semiconductor production technologies

BTRY's batteries offer ideal energy storage solutions for wireless IoT sensors, wearable technologies, and medical applications. This development is groundbreaking in the transition to smaller, safer, and longer-lasting energy storage technologies.

The award was presented at the opening of HANNOVER MESSE 2026 by Federal Minister for Research, Technology and Space Dorothee Bär, in the presence of Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Bär emphasized that this innovative and resource-saving battery increases competitiveness and sheds light on future policy investments.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Holger Hanselka, President of the Fraunhofer Society and head of the jury, stated that such customized batteries play a critical role in achieving a climate-neutral society. He added that licensing discussions are ongoing due to the superior product performance and production technology of BTRY.

The HERMES Startup Award annually recognizes products or solutions with a high level of technological innovation from companies younger than five years. The award is traditionally presented at the HANNOVER MESSE opening ceremony.
