The young Swiss startup BTRY won the HERMES Startup Award 2026 with its ultra-thin and fully flexible solid-state batteries. The product offers advantages over traditional lithium-ion cells due to its fast charging, high temperature resistance, and superior safety features.
### Innovative Solid-State Batteries
- Ultra-thin, only 0.1 mm thick
- Completely flexible design
- Operating temperature up to 150 °C
- Full charge and discharge possible in one minute
- Manufactured with semiconductor production technologies
- Free of toxic solvents and low material consumption
BTRY has made a global breakthrough in smaller, safer, and longer-lasting energy storage solutions by successfully integrating semiconductor industry production technologies into battery manufacturing. This technology specifically enables the development of next-generation smart devices in wireless IoT sensors, wearables, and medical technologies.
### Award Ceremony and Evaluations
On April 19, 2026, at the opening of Hannover Messe, the award was presented by Dorothee Bär, Germany's Minister for Research, Technology, and Space. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Holger Hanselka, President of the Fraunhofer Society, chaired the jury. Hanselka stated, "Advanced energy storage solutions play a key role in the transition to a climate-neutral society. BTRY clearly demonstrated this with its product performance and production technology."
Dorothee Bär emphasized that BTRY's innovative and resource-efficient solution enhances competitiveness and that future-oriented investments will secure prosperity.
