Metal packaging manufacturers are increasingly turning to automated inspection and data-driven traceability systems to ensure product integrity and production line compatibility. Antares Vision Group will showcase AI-powered inspection and serialization technologies for can production at Metpack 2026, to be held in Essen, Germany, from May 5-8.

    ### Inspection Technologies in Can Production Process

At the fair, various machine vision systems designed for different production stages will be exhibited. The Cyclops system performs in-line inspection of the bottoms and lids of food and beverage cans during production, detecting structural and surface defects.

DecoMatch offline checks the color consistency and print quality of printed decorations on beverage cans. For aerosol packaging, the PolyView CTI system inspects the neck and edges of cans, where dimensional accuracy and surface integrity are critical for sealing.

These systems contribute to quality control in food, beverage, and aerosol production by detecting defects that are important for safety, shelf life, and functionality.

    ### Machine Vision and Traceability Integration

Antares Vision Group also offers serialization and end-to-end traceability solutions throughout the digital supply chain. These systems allow manufacturers to track individual products or batches through production and distribution processes, enabling regulatory compliance and recall management.

The use of artificial intelligence in inspection processes increases the accuracy of defect detection and reduces false positives by analyzing visual patterns and production data. This ensures more consistent quality control in high-speed production environments.

    ### Technical Specifications

    • Cyclops: In-line structural/surface defect inspection on bottom and lid
    • DecoMatch: Offline color and print quality control
    • PolyView CTI: Dimensional and surface inspection of aerosol can neck and edge
    • End-to-end traceability and serialization systems
    • AI-powered defect detection and data analysis

    ### Standardization and Integration in Production

These technologies, developed by Antares Vision Group's Applied Vision Corporation unit, offer application-specific machine vision systems in container manufacturing. The aim is to increase accuracy, operational efficiency, and ease of use in industrial environments.

This approach, which combines in-line inspection, offline analysis, and traceability capabilities, represents a significant transition towards integrated quality control systems in packaging production. Manufacturers can maintain product consistency and meet compliance requirements while managing complex production processes.
