Siemens Smart Infrastructure is enhancing the cyber resilience of critical infrastructure operators, such as energy suppliers, data centers, and airports, with its new Managed Detection and Response (MDR) service. As IT and OT systems become increasingly integrated, companies struggle to manage a growing number of security alerts; a significant problem is the lack of appropriate expertise and personnel to provide 24/7 service.

    ### Security with MDR Service
Siemens' MDR service enables companies to protect their digitized systems in compliance with NIS 2 EU regulations and from a single, trusted source. It reduces costs by up to 80% compared to establishing an in-house 24/7 Security Operations Center (SOC) and provides 50% savings in operating expenses.

    ### How the MDR Service Works
    • Provides 24/7 monitoring and analysis of potential incidents
    • Performs alarm evaluation and incident response
    • Security data is collected from IT and OT systems and securely transmitted to the SOC
    • Alarms and incidents are analyzed and prioritized, and false alarms are filtered out
    • Specific action recommendations are provided to the user
    • Threat detection rules are continuously updated and adapted to new threats

    ### Siemens' Approach and Reference
Stephan May (CEO of Siemens Smart Infrastructure Electrification and Automation) stated, "Energy security today cannot be considered independently of cybersecurity. Our MDR service supports critical infrastructure owners in protecting their systems against cyber threats, enabling them to confidently advance digital transformation and energy transition."

Hertener Stadtwerke, a company in Germany, is successfully protecting its operational systems using the new MDR service. Stefan Burkert (Head of Communication Technologies at Hertener Stadtwerke) commented, "Cybersecurity requirements in critical infrastructures are constantly increasing. Siemens' MDR service gives us confidence by ensuring regulatory compliance and continuous expert supervision of our systems."

    ### Siemens and the Charter of Trust
With its MDR service, Siemens provides the highest level of cybersecurity in line with the Charter of Trust principles, supporting the digital transformation of critical infrastructures in a secure, scalable, and cost-effective manner. The Charter of Trust, spearheaded by Siemens, aims to establish binding rules and standards to build trust in cybersecurity.
