Siemens Smart Infrastructure has introduced a comprehensive portfolio of protection and switching solutions for direct current (DC) technology. This new portfolio increases energy efficiency while providing up to 50% savings in cabling and busbar materials and reducing peak power consumption by up to 80%.

    ### Direct Current Technology and Evolving Demands
The use of direct current by renewable energy sources and battery storage systems for electricity generation and storage is accelerating the transition from AC to DC systems to reduce energy conversion losses and increase sustainability. Siemens continues its leadership in this transformation by playing an active role in platforms such as the Open Direct Current Alliance (ODCA) and Current/OS.

    ### Innovative Products in Siemens' DC Portfolio
    • SENTRON 3QD2: Offers ultra-fast short-circuit interruption in microseconds thanks to semiconductor technology and intelligent protection algorithms. This speed provides interruption 1000 times faster than conventional systems and ensures critical safety in DC grids.
    • SIRIUS 3RF5: The first semiconductor switching device designed for DC applications. It offers durability with low wear in high-frequency resistive load switching. Its environmentally friendly design is highlighted with the Siemens EcoTech label.

    ### Application Areas and Advantages
The solutions are used in renewable energy integration, especially in data centers, AI factories, production facilities, and battery storage systems that require high performance. Integrated with SIVACON S8 low-voltage distribution boards and SIVACON 8PS busbar systems, they increase efficiency and reliability.

    ### Technical Specifications
    • Up to 80% reduction in peak power consumption
    • Up to 50% savings in cabling and busbar material
    • SENTRON 3QD2: Ultra-fast interruption, parameterizable, maintenance-free, no mechanical wear
    • SIRIUS 3RF5: High-frequency switching, low wear, Siemens EcoTech label

    ### Energy and Cost Advantages
In industry, DC grids and energy recovery solutions significantly reduce peak power demands in robotic applications, thereby lowering costs. Furthermore, they reduce environmental impact with less copper usage, without requiring reactive power compensation.

Siemens will present its new portfolio at Hannover Messe 2026.
