Kollmorgen has announced its new IP69K-rated servo drives, developed for demanding hygienic and washdown environments. These drives combine multi-protocol support, absolute feedback, and cost-effective performance to provide durable motion systems for applications requiring frequent cleaning, such as food processing and packaging.
Kollmorgen has expanded its Essentials Servo Drive (KED) platform for washdown and hygienic environments. These new drives are specifically designed for applications where equipment is frequently exposed to harsh cleaning conditions, such as food processing and packaging.
As part of the update, KED drives support SFD-M absolute feedback by integrating with AKMA aluminum washdown motors and AKMH stainless steel hygienic motors. This combination offers multi-turn positioning, industrial Ethernet support, and integrated safety while keeping system costs and complexity under control.

With SFD-M technology, position data is preserved during power cycles using an energy harvesting method, which reduces maintenance needs and provides high-resolution feedback. This technology also shortens commissioning time by reducing the need for manual parameter entry during setup.
The system, paired with AKMA and AKMH motors, is designed for use in environments requiring frequent washdown and hygiene. AKMA features an aluminum casing, while AKMH is made of stainless steel, and both are IP69K certified, making them resistant to high-pressure cleaning and chemical exposure.
