Siemens has introduced Eigen Engineering Agent, an autonomous engineering tool designed to accelerate industrial automation engineering processes and enhance operational efficiency. This innovative system significantly streamlines engineering workflows by automating PLC coding and system configuration.
### Function of the Autonomous Engineering Tool
Eigen Engineering Agent integrates directly into automation platforms, managing end-to-end task planning and validation processes in complex production environments. Unlike traditional AI-powered code suggestions, it actively understands project parameters, writes automation code, and configures hardware without requiring continuous manual intervention.
### Performance and Efficiency Gains
Data from pilot applications, where the system was used in over 100 companies across 19 countries, shows that it performs operations 2 to 5 times faster compared to traditional methods. These processes have led to a 50% increase in engineering efficiency and an 80% improvement in overall solution quality.
### Application Areas
- PLC Coding: Automates the coding and debugging processes of programmable logic controllers.
- HMI Visualization: Accelerates the design of human-machine interfaces.
- Device Configuration: Reduces manual inputs in the integration of sensors and actuators into the network.
### Industry Application Examples
ANDRITZ Metals used Eigen to increase efficiency and cost-effectiveness in metal processing lines. CASMT, on the other hand, reduced inter-expert work transfers and shortened debugging times by combining multi-disciplinary engineering tasks in electromechanical brake (EMB) lines.
### Digital Supply Chain Integration
Eigen Engineering Agent is integrated with Siemens TIA Portal, providing direct access to approximately 600,000 users. This integration is part of embedding industrial AI into the standard software stack as an operating system. Supported by a €1 billion industrial AI investment announced in November 2025, this technology primarily focuses on automation engineering, but its architecture can be extended to areas such as maintenance and real-time operations optimization.
