Valmet has received an order to deliver integrated automation systems for three new RoPax vessels for Finnlines. These new vessels will increase Finnlines' capacity on its main routes while also supporting its long-term sustainability and efficiency goals.
In the design of its new generation RoPax vessels, Finnlines prioritized real-time access to all critical information for the crew. The need for a modern, integrated system arose in an environment where separate systems, with their distinct interfaces, data sources, and maintenance processes, were proving inadequate.
Juha Ahia, Head of Newbuildings and Projects at Finnlines, stated, "Automation plays a central role in ensuring safe, reliable, and energy-efficient operations across our fleet. We wanted to approach ship systems with a holistic and modern perspective; this will simplify daily tasks, reduce the risk of information discrepancies, and standardize operating procedures. Furthermore, maintenance will be more practical throughout the vessels' lifespan. We conducted our evaluations with these goals in mind and chose Valmet due to their robust technology and our long-standing collaboration with Finnlines."
Hédi Azzouz, Vice President, Energy, Process and Marine Systems, Automation Systems Business Line at Valmet, shared his satisfaction, saying, "We are proud to continue our long-term collaboration with Finnlines. Their high operational standards and commitment to sustainable maritime transport align perfectly with our expertise in marine automation. Our integrated automation solution will provide a strong technological infrastructure for the new RoPax vessels and support their performance throughout their lifespan."
### Valmet Automation System Delivery
Valmet's delivery includes the Valmet DNA Integrated Automation System (IAS). This system covers engine and energy management automation, alarm and monitoring systems, and comprehensive operational tools that support safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly ship operations. The systems will be delivered to the shipyard between 2026 and 2027 and commissioned in line with the vessels' construction schedules.
