## Inductive Position Measurement System for Compact Machines from Balluff
Balluff has developed a compact inductive measurement system capable of non-contact metal position detection with high accuracy in limited mounting spaces. This new solution is specifically designed for machine tool applications with tight spaces where precision and reliability are critical.
### Innovative Solution to Space Constraints in Precision Machining Areas
Monitoring the accurate positions of components such as tool spindles and tool changers in machining centers is essential for correct clamping and process stability. While miniaturization of machine designs makes sensor integration more difficult, traditional sensors encounter additional mounting space requirements or limitations in their measurement range.
Balluff's BIP inductive position measurement system, while maintaining a measurement range of up to 10 mm, can be directly integrated into narrow mechanical assemblies thanks to its compact design, requiring no changes to the machine layout.
### Non-Contact Measurement Principle and System Design
The system uses the inductive sensor principle, which detects the positions of metal targets without contact. This prevents mechanical wear and reduces maintenance needs. Since friction is eliminated, measurement accuracy remains constant during long-term use.
The dual interface structure, offering analog output and IO-Link communication in the same device, provides compatibility with existing control systems and facilitates integration into digital automation infrastructures. IO-Link enables sensor-level parameter setting, diagnostics, and data access.
