ABB has introduced SPR2025, the new version of its Symphony® Plus distributed control system, used in the power, water, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, and paper production sectors. This update aims to facilitate the integration of digital capabilities while ensuring seamless operation in existing plants.

    ### Combining Legacy Systems with New Architecture
SPR2025 supports migration from older platforms like Harmony (INFI90) while maintaining operational continuity. Online updates, automatic conversion tools, and expanded operating system compatibility allow for upgrades without the need for a complete system overhaul.

    ### Virtualization and Connectivity Features
The system enables multiple operating systems to run in a single environment, simplifying lifecycle management across IT and OT layers. It also supports the OPC UA standard throughout the control architecture, ensuring secure and standardized data communication. The Ethernet-based infrastructure enhances high data transfer and consistent integration of field devices.

    ### Separation of Control and Digital Layers
One of SPR2025's key innovations is the Automation Extended feature, which separates core control functions from digital applications. This structure allows advanced analytics, performance monitoring, and AI-powered decision-making tools to operate independently of the control layer, thereby increasing the reliability of process control.

    ### Updates for Lifecycle Efficiency
The system aims to reduce engineering efforts and downtime through version synchronization and online updates. It is compatible with current Microsoft operating systems and virtualization platforms. With Field Information Manager (FIM), commissioning, diagnostics, and maintenance processes for field devices have been improved.

    ### Support for Phased Modernization
SPR2025 facilitates the transition from Harmony Rack systems to the SDe series with automatic tools, ensuring the preservation of previous engineering data. With modular upgrades and a standard communication infrastructure, it allows systems to be modernized while maintaining operational continuity and reliability.
