TURCK has added another innovation to its industrial automation portfolio by launching the IM18-CCM45 control cabinet protector, which features integrated environmental sensors and local Multiprotocol Ethernet connectivity. This compact device is designed to monitor the operating environments inside electrical cabinets across a wide range of applications, from mechanical engineering to intralogistics.

Unlike older systems, the IM18-CCM45 sends cyclical measurement data directly to programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and corporate IT networks, rather than relying on separate sensors or Linux-based edge computers. This direct integration eliminates the need for additional hardware, simplifying engineering processes for both new installations and the modernization of existing systems.

- Environmental Monitoring: Internal sensors continuously measure ambient temperature, relative humidity, and the physical distance of the cabinet door to assess cabinet conditions.

Why is Control Cabinet Monitoring Important? 🤔
Monitoring control cabinet conditions plays a critical role in preventing component failures. For example, continuous cabinet temperatures above 35°C to 40°C can halve the lifespan of power semiconductors and drives. Integrated optical sensors detect door gaps, preventing uncontrolled air ingress that can disrupt thermal balance or cause moisture buildup. Managing relative humidity reduces the risk of dielectric breakdown by preventing condensation on printed circuit boards. Furthermore, ATEX and IECEx Zone 2 classifications guarantee the safety of the electronic enclosure in environments where flammable gases or vapors may be present.
