Schneider Electric is joining forces with the World Economic Forum (WEF) to advance the Lighthouse Operating System (Lighthouse OS) Advisory Board. This collaboration aims to enable manufacturers of all sizes to modernize and scale with an open-source framework.
So, what exactly is Lighthouse OS? It's essentially an open-source, practical blueprint that takes the proven successes of industrial facilities and transforms them into a structured roadmap that any manufacturer can implement. It was developed by the WEF's Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Supply Chains, in collaboration with leading OEMs, end-users, and consulting firms.
Lighthouse OS is built upon six core operating principles:
Agile and resilient processes: Robust operations capable of adapting to changing conditions.
Connected and transparent flows: Seamless and visible data and information flow.
End-to-end synchronization: All operations working in harmony.
Embedded sustainability: Integration of environmental and social responsibility into processes.
Learning organization: A culture of continuous improvement and adaptation.
Accelerated digital and data capability: Strengthening decision-making processes through digitalization and data analytics.
These principles are structured across five different levels of operation. Companies can assess their current state, identify areas to focus on, and scale at their own pace. This offers a system-wide approach.
Schneider Electric has been developing its own operating system for over 20 years. This system has enabled the company to rank at the top of Gartner's supply chain rankings and achieve recognition for nine WEF Lighthouse factories. This deep expertise is now being transferred to the Lighthouse OS framework.
