The transition to digital printing in the industrial labeling and packaging sector is fraught with challenges posed by special fluids such as highly pigmented white inks and UV varnishes. Such fluids, due to their high densities and tendency to leave residue, frequently lead to clogging, irregular dot placement, and maintenance downtime.

    ✨ Solution from Kyocera: KJ4A-EX600RC-HX

To overcome these issues, Kyocera Corporation has developed a new piezoelectric-driven circulating inkjet printhead called the KJ4A-EX600RC-HX. Scheduled for release in November 2026, this technology is specifically designed for industrial packaging systems.

đź’§ Near-Nozzle Circulation Architecture and Fluid Temperature Stability

    • This new printhead features an internal micro-channel design that continuously circulates ink behind the nozzle orifices.
    • This continuous flow prevents heavy pigment particles from settling, purges micro-bubbles, and stabilizes fluid temperature, ensuring consistent print quality.
    • Thus, the need for long cleaning cycles and manual maintenance is reduced.

🎯 Acoustic Jetting Dynamics and High-Deposit Droplet Metrics

The KJ4A-EX600RC-HX uses redesigned piezoelectric actuators to achieve high opacity and embossed textural embellishments in a single pass:

    • The maximum droplet volume is 21 picoliters, representing a 23% increase over the previous model.
    • High droplet volume increases optical density and background opacity for white ink barriers on transparent and metallic surfaces.
    • The operating frequency of 40 kilohertz, double that of the previous model, supports line speeds of up to 100 meters per minute.

🧪 Rheological Operating Range for High-Viscosity Decorative Formulations

While standard industrial printheads operate within a narrow viscosity range (6-7 millipascal-seconds), the KJ4A-EX600RC-HX extends this threshold to 8-11 millipascal-seconds. This allows ink chemists to develop UV-curable fluids with higher solid content. Label converters can apply high-gloss varnishes, tactile textures, and metallic receptive bonding layers in single-pass production workflows.

    🔍 Technical Comparison

Other notable printheads on the market include the Seiko RC1536 and the Xaar 2002 series. The Seiko RC1536 offers droplet sizes from 13 to 217 picoliters and a viscosity range of up to 25 millipascal-seconds, while the Xaar 2002 stands out with droplet sizes from 6 to 40 picoliters and viscosity limits of 10-12 millipascal-seconds.

The Kyocera KJ4A-EX600RC-HX, on the other hand, balances high-frequency jetting at 40 kilohertz with 600 dpi resolution, offering an ideal solution for high-opacity white ink and tactile UV coatings with high text readability and sharp graphic boundaries in narrow web label printing.
