Regal Rexnord and FANUC Join Forces!

An exciting development has occurred in the world of industrial automation! Regal Rexnord and robotics giant FANUC have collaborated to launch a fully integrated joint robotic solution. This innovative solution combines the Thomson Movotrak™ Cobot Transfer Unit (CTU) with FANUC's CRX Series collaborative robots.

Thomson Movotrak CTU: The New Extension for Cobots

Developed using Regal Rexnord's complementary technologies such as Boston Gear gearboxes, Huco couplings, and Kollmorgen motors, the CTU extends the reach of FANUC CRX collaborative robots by up to 10 meters. This significantly increases operational efficiency while enhancing human-robot collaboration.

✨ Seamless Integration and Safety First

  • Easy Setup: Thanks to a co-developed add-on interface, FANUC integrators can configure the CTU directly from the robot's teach pendant.
  • Flexible Mounting: With floor, wall, or ceiling mounting options, it adapts to any work environment.
  • Collision Detection: As the first external linear axis solution with integrated collision detection, the CTU maximizes safety by automatically stopping both the axis and the cobot when an obstacle is detected.
  • Rapid Deployment: By combining linear systems, gears, and motors under a single part number, it supports even the largest FANUC cobots (like the CRX30iA) and accelerates setup and reduces downtime thanks to its easy-to-use Freedrive mode.

A New Era in Industrial Automation

This "seventh axis" integration represents a rapidly growing trend in industrial automation. Now, a single collaborative robotic arm can serve multiple CNC machines, welding stations, or extended packaging lines. This eliminates the need for businesses to invest in multiple static robots.

Regal Rexnord and FANUC are removing barriers to automation for manufacturers who may not have extensive robotic programming expertise by offering a pre-engineered, plug-and-play solution with built-in collision detection. The unification of hardware within a combined software ecosystem ensures strict adherence to collaborative safety protocols on both the cobot and the external rail. This is a critical requirement for maintaining a fence-free workspace on the factory floor.
