## Precision Gears and Geared Motors Market: A Look Beyond Robotics
The precision gear market is closely linked to the robotics sector, with robotics accounting for 35% of global market revenues in 2025. This figure was 33.6% in 2021, and the robotics sector's share is expected to reach 46.3% by 2030.
While market revenue grew by 7.8% annually in 2025, it had experienced a decline of over 10% in 2024. These data are derived from extensive surveys of precision gearbox and geared motor manufacturers.
### Robotics Sector Market Share
In 2025, industrial robots (including collaborative robots) constituted 27.3% of the total precision gear market, generating $878 million in revenue. Although this represents a recovery from $790 million in 2024, it remains below the $1 billion revenue level of 2023. In 2024, industrial robot production decreased from 521,000 to just over 502,000 units.
In 2025, industrial robot production in Asia saw a strong recovery, with precision gear product sales increasing by 16%. In the Americas and EMEA regions, the market largely remained stagnant. An increase in demand for industrial robots is expected across all regions in 2026.
### Growth in Mobile Robots
The mobile robot sector maintains high growth and attractiveness potential, but shipment forecasts have been revised downwards due to economic challenges. Nevertheless, sales of precision gear products for the mobile robot sector grew by 24.5% in 2025, reaching $169 million. The market is projected to exceed $400 million by 2030, with an average annual growth of 20.1%.
### Humanoid Robots Growing Rapidly
While the humanoid robot sector generated only $16 million in revenue in 2024, this figure increased fivefold to approximately $80 million by the end of 2025. Sector revenues are expected to almost double in 2026.
Strain wave and planetary gears are generally preferred in humanoid robots. Cycloidal gears are being tested for specific models in joints requiring high torque and stiffness (waist, hips, knees). While strain wave and planetary gears are expected to dominate in 2030, cycloidal gears also show promise for applications requiring higher torque and durability.
### Non-Robotics Sectors
Outside of robotics, sales of precision gearboxes are expected to show high annual growth rates in the military and defense, semiconductor and electronics machinery, and medical equipment sectors until 2030.
- The military and defense sector is projected to grow by 5.9% annually between 2024 and 2030, driven by increasing defense spending. Applications include radar, communication systems, military aircraft, vehicles, and unmanned systems.
- The semiconductor and electronics sector is experiencing a recovery from 2024 onwards, fueled by the AI boom and supportive policies.
- The medical equipment sector is outperforming some traditional manufacturing sectors in precision gear sales. However, "good enough" product preferences in the food and packaging machinery sectors are leading to price reductions.
### Conclusion
The global precision gearbox and geared motor market showed a recovery in 2025 after the challenges faced in 2024. Robotics, especially industrial and mobile robots, continues to be the main growth driver. Although economic factors are affecting sales in the short term, growth in the military, semiconductor, and medical equipment sectors also holds promise. With increasing demand for precision automation, the long-term market outlook remains positive.
