Agility Robotics Transforms Industrial Workflows
Agility Robotics has introduced Digit 5, a new humanoid robot designed to perform full facility workflows in logistics and manufacturing sectors alongside humans, without safety barriers. Developed based on over 65,000 hours of operational experience from the previous model, Digit 5 is equipped with specific safety controls for human-robot collaboration.
Safe Working Environment with Humans
Digit 5's integrated safety architecture enables it to work side-by-side with human personnel. Thanks to an independent motion controller and hardware-level sensors, the robot continuously monitors humans in the workspace. When an operator enters a safety zone, Digit 5 autonomously changes its path, stops, or lowers its center of gravity to assume a sitting position. Visual and auditory signaling systems instantly communicate the robot's intentions to surrounding personnel.
Technical Power and Performance Upgrades
Digit 5 has been mechanically strengthened to meet the material handling needs of a single worker. With cycloidal actuator technology in its lower limbs, it can lift repetitive loads of up to 22.7 kg, a 40% increase over the previous model. Standing 1.81 meters tall and weighing 129 kg, the robot can easily reach standard logistics shelves and workstations with a vertical reach of 2.2 meters.
An ISO-standard flange system allows for quick end-effector changes between specialized case handling mechanisms and general-purpose tools. The redesigned battery architecture supports rapid charging at autonomous charging stations. Only 9 minutes of high-speed charging is sufficient for 90 minutes of operation, providing over 20 hours of operational time per day with a 10:1 work/charge ratio.
Comprehensive Workflow Integration
Digit 5 extends physical AI training across various operational nodes, including inbound pallet unloading, precise kit preparation, machine tending, optical quality inspection, and outbound palletizing. It can integrate directly with existing autonomous mobile robots and conveyor lines.
Fleet management and operational telemetry connect with enterprise warehouse management systems and manufacturing execution systems via the Agility Arc software layer. Key performance metrics such as uptime, cycle times, and mean time between failures are visualized in the cloud console. Data security is ensured through end-to-end encryption and computer vision data processed at local edge computing.
Production and Commercial Launch
Mass production of Digit 5 is taking place at the 6,500 square meter RoboFab facility in Salem, Oregon, with an annual capacity of 10,000 units. Multi-year commitments exceeding $300 million have been secured with partners such as GXO, Schaeffler, Amazon, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada. Initial international commercial operations are targeting the European Union and the United Kingdom. Regional customer access will begin in the first half of 2027, with commercial sales planned for late 2027.
