New Collaborative Robot from Yaskawa: MOTOMAN-HC12
Yaskawa has introduced its new collaborative robot, the MOTOMAN-HC12, designed to enhance safety and flexibility in the workplace. This robot stands out with a 12 kg payload capacity and a 1410 mm reach.
Advanced Safety and Efficiency
The MOTOMAN-HC12 replaces its predecessor, the MOTOMAN-HC10DTP, and was developed to address labor shortages in manufacturing and facilitate automation. It aims to reduce production costs by combining advanced safety systems with increased productivity.
Compact Design and Easy Installation
Thanks to its slim arm profile, reduced weight, and smaller footprint, the robot can be easily positioned even in confined spaces. The base mounting dimension has been significantly reduced compared to the previous model (from φ275 mm to φ170 mm), minimizing physical interaction with machinery and structures. This compact design facilitates installation in limited production areas and narrow workstations.
Integrated Torque Sensors and Safety Performance
The MOTOMAN-HC12 features newly developed torque sensors that enhance collision detection sensitivity and system response times. These sensors allow the robot to move at higher speeds during collaborative operation while reducing impact force upon contact with human personnel. Additionally, the mechanical design offers intuitive hand-guiding for manual teaching and daily use.
Internal Cable Routing
To protect cabling and simplify tool setup, all application cables, including a high-speed Cat6A Ethernet line, are routed through the robot arm. This internal arrangement eliminates external cable harnesses, preventing snagging risks and providing direct electrical connections for end-of-arm tooling.
Wide Range of Applications
The MOTOMAN-HC12 is ideal for automated material handling and assembly processes such as palletizing, screwing, arc welding, optical inspection, and general industrial tasks.
Technical Advantages
- Unlike traditional collaborative robots, the MOTOMAN-HC12's dedicated joint torque sensors measure contact forces directly at the load point, enabling faster transition speeds and millisecond-level collision stops.
- The compact φ170 mm mounting footprint allows for easy integration into Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and narrow machine feeding arrangements.
- Internally routed Cat6A lines eliminate external cable harnesses, preventing snagging risks and cable fatigue during continuous axis rotation.
