Dunkermotoren Offers Specialized Solutions to Pump Manufacturers

Dunkermotoren has introduced configurable brushless DC (BLDC) motor platforms that enhance efficiency, precise flow control, and digital connectivity for pump manufacturers. These next-generation motors provide system-level solutions for a wide range of pump applications, from medical to industrial, hydraulics to process systems.

Integrated Solution in a Single Package

Dunkermotoren's modular architecture combines motor mechanics, drive electronics, sensor feedback, and communication protocols into a single integrated drive package. This simplifies integration processes for OEMs and facilitates bill of material management.

    Application Areas and Operational Needs

    • Medical Technology: Provides vibration-free, low-noise operation in hemodialysis and fluid management systems, and repeatable flow for long-term treatments.
    • Hydraulic Systems: Offers dynamic on-demand pressure regulation under fluctuating mechanical loads and harsh environmental conditions in rail and mobile equipment.
    • Cooling and Process Circulation: Reduces energy consumption in HVAC and fluid loops by adjusting flow and pressure in real-time with variable speed control.
    • Dosing and Metering Equipment: Ensures high-accuracy rotational control for repeatable volumetric dosing in automated filling, chemical processing, and water treatment operations.

    Scalable Control and Network Platforms

Dunkermotoren offers a three-tiered control architecture tailored to automation complexity:

    • dGo Platform: Provides independent four-quadrant speed regulation, direction reversal, jam detection, and custom speed profiles via analog/digital inputs.
    • dMove Platform: Adds CANopen fieldbus communications and digital interfaces, enabling positioning routines, torque control, and remote monitoring of speed, current, and temperature.
    • dPro Platform: Offers field-oriented vector control and interfaces with industrial Ethernet protocols such as PROFINET, EtherCAT, and EtherNet/IP. It provides high dosing accuracy, Safe Torque Off (STO) functionality, and real-time telemetry for IoT and predictive maintenance systems.

Customization options for OEMs include special shaft geometries, motor-pump mechanical interfaces, modular planetary or worm gearboxes, and integrated encoder systems.

    Technical Details

Electronically commutated brushless DC motors use permanent magnet rotors and three-phase stator windings. Commutation is managed electronically via internal Hall-effect sensors or high-resolution magnetic/optical encoders. In pump drive applications, field-oriented control (FOC) algorithms separate stator currents into torque-producing and magnetizing components, minimizing torque ripple and maximizing motor efficiency at varying rotational speeds.

The dPro platform includes hardware-based Safe Torque Off (STO) compliant with IEC 61800-5-2 standards (achieving SIL 3 and PL e safety ratings). This cuts the gate drive power to internal power MOSFETs or IGBTs to prevent unwanted shaft rotation during emergency stops. Drive housings are designed to meet industrial protection ratings from IP54 to IP65 or IP69K. Radial shaft seals, hermetically sealed potting compounds, and corrosion-resistant stainless steel hardware prevent fluid ingress in washdown and chemically aggressive environments.
