## Update to ISA-88 Batch Automation Software
Valmet Oyj has released an updated version of its new batch automation and recipe management software, which extends ISA-88 compliant batch control to both legacy and web-based distributed control systems for process industries.
### Enhanced Batch Automation and System Integration
The new version provides full interoperability between Valmet’s distributed control system architecture and its newer web-based automation platform. This allows software designed for legacy DCS environments to enable direct batch execution, recipe management, and campaign coordination across both generations of control systems.
This software provides crucial flexibility for batch-oriented chemical, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and specialty materials sectors, where production processes are organized with detailed recipes, precise sequences, and regulated operational states. It also allows for modernizing the operator interface and batch supervision without changing the underlying infrastructure.
### ISA-88 Standard Compliant Batch Execution and Recipe Management
The software follows the ISA-88 batch control standard, which separates physical equipment models from procedural logic and recipes. This structure enables the reuse of recipe components, consistent batch execution, and traceable production results across campaigns.
Batch configuration is done with graphical tools, reducing engineering effort when new product introduction or changes in batch parameters are required. Additionally, manual step confirmation and role-based permissions ensure operator control while maintaining process integrity.
The integrated electronic record system offers secure audit trails, user authentication, and controlled change management in compliance with FDA 21 CFR Part 11 and ISPE GAMP-5 guidelines. This is a critical feature in regulated environments where the accuracy and traceability of records are mandatory.
### Operational Visibility and Campaign Optimization
Batch execution data, active and historical batch results are accessible directly from the control system interface. Operators and process engineers can monitor deviations, analyze batch performance, and compare campaign results without transferring data to external systems.
Built-in campaign management functions support planning and parallel batch execution, increasing equipment utilization and production throughput. The reuse of approved recipe modules shortens the process of scaling production or developing variant formulations.
### Ease of Installation and Updates
This software is available to customers using both control system platforms and includes an upgrade option from previous versions. This allows existing installations to adopt new batch supervision, compliance, and interface features while preserving validated process logic and equipment models.
By extending batch automation to multiple control system architectures, this solution addresses the challenge of maintaining consistent batch execution and compliance during the transition to more flexible and web-based automation environments in process industries.
