    Industrial Radar Solutions from indie

The technology company indie will showcase its portfolio of industrial Symeo radar solutions at the SPS 2026 exhibition in Nuremberg, Germany, from November 24-26 (Hall 7a, Booth 406). These solutions cover a wide range, from classic distance measurement and collision avoidance in harsh environments to forward-looking applications such as condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and digital twin creation.

    Functional Safety in Harsh Environments

In industrial environments such as ports, steel mills, or bulk material logistics, radar sensors prove their superiority by being completely immune to rain, fog, or heavy dust, unlike optical systems. indie is introducing Symeo LPR-SAFE, a functional safety solution for cranes and rail-bound transport systems compliant with EN ISO 13849 PLd. This system operates with two redundant sensor pairs, and the measurement results are continuously compared and validated in a fail-safe Siemens PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) via a certified function block.

    Imaging Radar and Vibration Measurement

Beyond mere position detection, modern radar sensor technology offers new possibilities for asset monitoring. With the AVR-QDM-110 evaluation kit, indie is showcasing a high-resolution, short-range MIMO imaging radar that captures machines and infrastructure in real-time. Another exhibition highlight is contactless vibration measurement: Since mechanical wear or bearing damage in machines manifests early through minimal changes in vibration behavior, radar provides highly precise measurement data remotely to prevent unexpected failures through predictive maintenance.

MIMO Radar and FMCW Phase Evaluation

MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) is an advanced antenna technology that enables the transition from a simple distance meter to a high-resolution imaging radar. Instead of just measuring transit times, MIMO systems use multiple arrays of transmit (TX) and receive (RX) antennas to create a dense virtual antenna network through software. This allows for precise angular resolution in azimuth and elevation, generating detailed 3D point clouds similar to an optical LiDAR system, but immune to optical line-of-sight obstructions. For contactless vibration measurement, FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) technology is typically used in the millimeter-wave range (often 60 GHz or 77/79 GHz). Signal processors evaluate small phase shifts between the transmitted and reflected signals, rather than looking at the signal envelope. This enables the detection of vibration amplitudes in the sub-millimeter to micrometer range from several meters away, eliminating the need for physically wired piezo sensors on rotating machine parts.
