High-Speed Solution for Industrial Automation from Toshiba
Toshiba Electronics Europe has launched the DCL54xx01A series, a high-speed, four-channel digital isolator series designed to withstand the demanding conditions of industrial automation. This new series is engineered for programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and motor control systems, aiming to maintain signal integrity even in high-temperature manufacturing environments.
Uninterrupted Data Transmission in Noisy Environments
Industrial equipment frequently encounters high levels of common-mode noise due to fast-switching power devices. The DCL54xx01A series utilizes magnetic coupling isolation technology to mitigate this electrical interference, providing a high Common Mode Transient Immunity (CMTI) of typically 150 kV/µs. This ensures reliable data transmission in applications such as variable frequency drives, input/output (I/O) interfaces, and switched-mode power supplies.
Furthermore, these isolators can operate across a wide temperature range from -40 °C to +125 °C. This feature makes them ideal for deployment in high-temperature industrial environments where standard commercial components might experience thermal degradation.
Technical Specifications and Flexible Architectures
- Data Rate: Supports continuous data rates up to 150 Mbit/s.
- Supply Voltage: Operates between 2.25 V and 5.5 V.
- Isolation Voltage: Offers 5,000 Vrms isolation voltage for one minute.
- Propagation Delay: Minimizes system timing errors with a typical 10.9 ns propagation delay and 0.8 ns pulse width distortion.
The devices are offered in wide-body 16-pin SOIC (16 W SOIC) packages and support various transmission direction configurations such as 4:0, 3:1, or 2:2 (bidirectional transmission). This flexibility enables hardware engineers to support a wide range of isolated communication interfaces within the industrial data ecosystem.

The DCL54xx01A series stands out with its 150 Mbit/s data rate and 150 kV/µs CMTI value. These values surpass the typical 100 Mbit/s data rate and 85-100 kV/µs CMTI values of standard capacitive digital isolators from competitors like Texas Instruments (ISO774x series) and Analog Devices (ADuM14x series). Thanks to magnetic coupling technology, it directly meets the stringent timing and noise rejection tolerances required by modern fast-switching silicon carbide (SiC) or gallium nitride (GaN) power systems.
