    Dürr Introduces New Generation Robot Platform Specifically for Automotive Paint Shops​


    Dürr has introduced its EcoRS 2nd Generation robot platform, specifically designed for the challenging environments of automotive paint shops. This new series elevates automation to the next level in critical applications such as sealing, cleaning, and material handling.

    Challenges of Paint Shop Automation and Dürr's Solution​


    Automotive paint shops are sensitive and demanding environments where robot systems are continuously exposed to chemicals, paint mist, and intensive cleaning processes. Traditional automation approaches use fragmented hardware and software architectures for different tasks. This complicates system planning, spare parts inventory, and integration processes.

    Dürr's EcoRS 2nd Generation robots provide a solution to these problems. Thanks to internal motors in the third to sixth axes and fully internal cabling, the robot's interference contour is significantly reduced. This design minimizes the risk of snagging or contamination in confined workspaces, while also reducing overall space requirements and physical weight.

    The series includes four different models, offering payloads between 20 and 150 kg and reaches of up to 3,100 mm. This extended working area accommodates different vehicle models, offering flexibility for future production programs.

    Integrated Process and Uniform Control System 🌐​


    The EcoRS series was developed with close integration between robot kinematics, the control unit, and application process technology. This synchronization ensures high path accuracy and consistent material deposition, which are critical for repeatable and high-quality results in fine sealing applications on modern car bodies.

    Martin Wurst, Dürr Product Manager, states, "With the new EcoRS generation, we are creating a standardized platform for sealing applications." The platform operates on a uniform control and software architecture, utilizing the control technology found in Dürr's existing painting robots. Fully integrated into the standard Dürr control architecture and DXQ software platform, the system provides a seamless data and command environment from a single source within the facility.

    Competition and Technical Superiority 🏆​


    The Dürr EcoRS 2nd Generation competes in the automotive paint shop robot market with specialized sealing and handling robots such as the FANUC Paint Mate series or the Yaskawa Motoman EP and MP lines. While standard industrial handling robots often require external protective jackets or secondary routing for application hoses, Dürr's internal motor integration in the third to sixth axes mirrors the hollow arm architectures unique to painting robots.

    By extending this clean design philosophy to heavy-duty sealing and handling tasks (up to 150 kg payload) and running it on the proprietary DXQ software platform, Dürr enables automotive OEMs to consolidate their control logic in both painting and sealing zones. This ensures that technicians do not need to be trained on separate PLC interfaces for different robot brands on the same production line.
