DXC Study: Demand for Human Control Rises as AI Autonomy Increases
According to DXC Technology's "DXC Digital Future Monitor 2026" report, companies in the DACH region are facing a strategic dilemma. 80% of the 300 experts surveyed believe that the final decision in new AI processes should always be made by a human. However, 58% think it is likely that AI systems will independently make important business decisions in the future.
Virtual Agents and Compliance Risks
The transformation of the work environment is accelerating. 71% of participants expect a rapid increase in virtual AI agents within the next three years, while 74% see human-AI teams as a prerequisite for future business success. Nevertheless, 66% of companies state that non-transparent AI decisions are already creating new compliance burdens. Ramsés Gallego, Chief Technology Officer for Cybersecurity at DXC, warns against granting more decision-making authority to AI systems without a governance structure consisting of clear guidelines, technical safeguards, and human oversight.
Technological Background and Market Dynamics
With the integration of generative AI and autonomous agents into corporate processes, the gap between technological feasibility and regulatory control is widening. Many companies are struggling with "shadow AI," the use of unregulated and often unnoticed AI tools by employees. This poses significant security and data protection risks. Furthermore, new legal frameworks, such as the European AI Act, are compelling companies in the DACH region to demonstrate transparent, fair, and traceable AI systems. Therefore, a proactive and robust governance strategy is not only an ethical imperative but also a business-critical factor to avoid legal consequences.
