Zimmer Group introduces a new clamping and braking technology to safely control the movement of pneumatic cylinders in industrial machinery: the CBPS series! This compact solution not only holds piston rods statically but can also stop moving loads in a controlled manner. It is ideal for engineering, automation, and handling applications, especially where vertical or moving loads need to be secured in case of pressure loss or machine shutdown.
⚡ Controlled Braking in Case of Energy Loss
Unlike static clamping elements, the CBPS series combines clamping and braking functions. These elements, which close when energy is cut off and operate with spring energy, can brake the movement of the piston rod and hold the load steady in the event of a pneumatic energy interruption. This feature is vital in situations where a moving load on vertical axes should not be secured by a static holding function alone. According to Zimmer Group, the holding force of the CBPS elements is at least twice the force of the pneumatic cylinder used.

🛠️ Easy Integration with Standard Interfaces
These clamping elements can be directly combined with cylinders conforming to DIN EN ISO 15552 and DIN EN ISO 21287 standards. This allows for easy integration into both new machine designs and the improvement of existing pneumatic axes. The integrated wiper protects the clamping mechanism from contamination, ensuring trouble-free operation in industrial environments. The operating temperature ranges from -10 °C to +70 °C, and the pneumatic operating pressure is between 4 and 6.5 bar.
📊 Status Monitoring for Machine Control
For integration with automated machines, the open or closed status of the clamping element can be monitored with magnetic field sensors. This feedback allows the machine control system to verify the status of the clamp before allowing subsequent movements, which is particularly important in safety-critical processes. Opening times range from 0.035 to 0.065 seconds, and closing times range from 0.035 to 0.08 seconds.
💪 Designed for Static Clamping and Dynamic Braking
Zimmer Group states that the series is designed for five million static clamping cycles and 2,000 dynamic braking cycles. Static clamping holds a stationary piston rod in place, while dynamic braking requires absorbing kinetic energy. Therefore, the number of dynamic braking cycles is lower than the number of static cycles. The series is designed for safety applications in accordance with DIN EN ISO 13849-1/-2 standards.
