    Bosch Rexroth is bringing a breath of fresh air to integrated measurement systems! With the IMS-A system, MEMS sensors, and BiSS-C interface, it now measures much more than just position. Designed especially for dynamic applications, this technology is rewriting process monitoring in many areas, from linear robots to machine tools.

    🔍 Why Is This So Important?​


    Dynamic applications in industrial facilities, such as gantry systems or laser cutting machines, require high precision and mechanical stability. While traditional systems only provide position data, modern predictive maintenance concepts demand additional physical parameters directly from the motion axis. This is precisely where IMS-A comes in!

    💡 What Innovations Does It Bring?​


    • MEMS Sensors: Thanks to MEMS sensors integrated into the runner block of precision ball and roller rail systems (for BSHP and RSHP series), IMS-A collects critical data such as acceleration, spatial position, temperature, distance traveled, and operating hours, in addition to position measurement.
    • BiSS-C Communication: Data transfer occurs synchronously and without interference via the BiSS-C (Bidirectional Serial Synchronous Interface) interface. This open-source protocol, an enhanced version of the SSI standard, provides higher clock rates, integrated diagnostics, and CRC protection for fully digital, bidirectional communication.

    📊 Machine Health Through Data Power​


    This additional sensor data from the runner block creates a reliable information base for complex monitoring architectures. Continuous vibration recording in three spatial axes or temperature profiles facilitate machine health assessments, condition-based maintenance, or AI-supported process analyses. In case of mechanical failures or unexpected deviations, extended data transparency accelerates diagnosis. For example, machine accidents can be reconstructed in detail using recorded acceleration values, clarifying service or liability questions.

    🔗 Integration and Interface Diversity​


    The new BiSS-C version completes IMS-A's existing interface portfolio. This portfolio already includes protocols such as SSI, HIPERFACE, DRIVE-CLiQ, and FANUC αi. The design and configuration of the systems are done through digital online configurators for runner blocks and guide rails.
