Bosch Rexroth Showcases Smart Intralogistics Solutions at ROSCon IT 2026

Bosch Rexroth will participate as a Gold Sponsor at ROSCon IT 2026, an event bringing together Robot Operating System (ROS) developers, to be held in Bologna on November 3rd. Coordinated by the Open Source Robotics Alliance (OSRA), this event is a critical meeting point for the open-source automation ecosystem. Bosch Rexroth will once again emphasize its commitment to developing open industrial solutions that combine software, flexible control systems, and advanced robotic technologies.

ROS 2 and the Future of Automated Kitting

At the heart of Bosch Rexroth's participation will be the integration of the ROS 2 framework into distributed applications and complex robotic systems. Flavio Ronzoni, Product Manager at the company, will present an automated kitting project focused on intralogistics, developed in collaboration with Reply and Joytek. This platform will demonstrate how autonomous mobility seamlessly merges with robotic manipulation, revealing how an open-source architecture transforms into a scalable and interoperable solution for industrial production environments.

ROS 2 Architecture and DDS Middleware in Industry

The transition from ROS 1 to ROS 2 marked a significant technological turning point in robotics. While ROS 1 had a centralized architecture, ROS 2 is built upon the industrial DDS (Data Distribution Service) standard. This peer-to-peer communication middleware provides a deterministic quality of service (QoS) essential for real-time control. In complex scenarios like mobile kitting – where a robot arm (cobot) mounted on an autonomous mobile robot (AMR) needs to navigate, identify components with machine vision, and pick them up while in motion – network latency and data loss are unacceptable. The integration of ROS 2 and DDS allows LIDAR sensors, cameras, and actuators to exchange encrypted data in a decentralized and synchronized manner, making heterogeneous robot fleets compliant with the strict safety and reliability standards of smart factories (Industry 4.0).
