Revolutionary Hall Effect Sensors from Infineon

Infineon is launching a new series of Hall effect sensors with on-chip autocalibration, designed to provide precise rotor position feedback in brushless DC motors. This TLx49012 family offers high accuracy for high-speed motors in automotive and industrial automation applications.

🛠️ Easy Setup and Flexible Mounting

    • These sensors come with an automatic system self-calibration function that simplifies system integration.
    • They eliminate the need for external reference encoders or special calibration routines, reducing manufacturing costs.
    • Thanks to continuous on-chip balancing mechanisms, the sensors can be mounted both on-axis and off-axis, providing design flexibility.

⚡ Superior Performance and Broad Compatibility

    • The sensors offer an ultra-low latency of just 1.5 microseconds, minimizing signal delay, which is critical for dynamic motor systems.
    • They operate with an angular accuracy of less than 0.1 degrees.
    • They are compatible with standard magnet configurations, supporting a magnetic field range between 20 mT and 120 mT.
    • They support various data transmission protocols such as SPI, ABZ, UVW, and PWM, allowing for easy integration with existing motor controller architectures.

đźš— Automotive Safety and Application Areas

    • With the increase in robotics and automotive electrification, the importance of BLDC motors is growing.
    • Automotive-grade variants, named TLE49012, comply with ISO 26262 functional safety standards and have an ASIL B classification.
    • This makes them ideal for safety-critical motor control systems in modern vehicle platforms.

    🔍 Competition and Technical Details

Infineon competes with companies like Melexis, Allegro MicroSystems, and ams OSRAM in this field. The 1.5-microsecond latency of the TLx49012 series provides a competitive advantage compared to the 1.9-microsecond latency of the ams OSRAM AS5147 series.

The ASIL B rating of the TLE49012 variants is sufficient for many auxiliary automotive motor applications such as fluid pumps and HVAC fans. However, for primary safety-critical systems like electronic power steering (EPS) or advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) braking, competitors like Allegro MicroSystems offer sensors with native ASIL D compliance, a higher safety certification typically achieved through dual-die or redundant sensor configurations.
