🚀 New Era in Weld Preparation!

Teqram's AI-powered grinding robot, EasyGrinder, had already revolutionized the automatic finishing of sheet metal parts. Now, this robot further expands its application area with the ability to create and finish weld seams! This is a significant step towards fully automated weld preparation, especially for manufacturers producing medium and heavy plate.

⚙️ From Finishing to Full Weld Preparation

For years, EasyGrinder has offered autonomous solutions for deburring, grinding, edge rounding, and surface cleaning of cut parts. Now, in addition to these capabilities, it can independently create weld seams, as well as remove oxide layers, heat-affected zones (HAZ), and other residues. This means that components are ready for welding immediately after the cutting process, eliminating the need for additional processing steps.

🧠 Automatic Programming Based on Product Data

One of the most striking features of the new solution is its high level of automation. By using a geometry file containing weld preparation information, EasyGrinder automatically generates the necessary processing program. No manual programming or robot teaching is required!

This approach meets the increasing demand for flexible automation in the sheet metal industry. As product variety increases and manufacturers move towards smaller batch sizes, flexibility becomes critical. By minimizing programming effort and setup times, automation can be efficiently implemented even in these production environments. It also allows companies to better utilize the expertise of their scarce skilled workforce.

👁️ Deviation Compensation with AI and 3D Vision

EasyGrinder combines 3D vision technology with an AI-powered controller. Before each processing operation, the actual geometry and position of the workpiece are automatically detected. This ensures consistent processing quality even if individual parts vary. Complex contours are automatically recognized and followed without the need for additional programming.

✨ An Attractive Alternative to Traditional Methods

Weld seams are typically created using methods such as manual grinding, sanding, or milling. Each of these techniques has its own limitations. EasyGrinder combines multiple operations into a single automated process. Thanks to its high processing speed, even larger seams can be produced efficiently, eliminating additional operations in many cases.

🔥 Seamless Integration with Thermal Cutting

For companies processing thick plate, laser cutting, plasma cutting, and oxy-fuel cutting are among the most efficient methods for producing large weld seams. However, these processes also require post-processing. Oxide layers, slag, burrs, and the heat-affected zone must be cleaned before a reliable weld can be achieved. EasyGrinder fully automates the post-processing. In a single step, it deburrs, grinds, rounds, and chamfers the component edges. This offers a cost-effective alternative to milling for plates up to 30 mm thick or thicker plates with small seams.

By combining multiple operations into a single automated step, handling, work-in-progress inventory, and manual grinding activities are reduced, while consistent and repeatable quality is ensured.

📈 More Capacity Without Additional Skilled Labor

According to Teqram, the new capability is particularly important for manufacturers who want to increase production capacity without becoming more dependent on scarce technical personnel. EasyGrinder not only takes over physically demanding grinding operations but also automates the handling of heavy plate components.

The robot can automatically pick up parts, position them for processing, and stack them again after completion. EasyGrinder can process workpieces weighing up to 600 kg and measuring 4 x 1 meter or 1.6 x 1.6 meters. Since handling is fully automated, crane movements and manual intermediate steps are eliminated, which reduces production time and increases operator efficiency.

Furthermore, the automated approach ensures consistent quality and greater process control. This can help reduce scrap, minimize rework, and increase the predictability of production costs. Grinding consumables are also used more efficiently, further helping to reduce operating costs.

    📍 Live Demonstration at EuroBLECH

The new capabilities of EasyGrinder will be showcased for the first time at EuroBLECH, the international sheet metal working exhibition, held in Hannover from October 20-23, 2026. Visitors to Teqram's stand will see how an AI-powered grinding robot not only automates the finishing of cut parts but also integrates weld preparation into a single autonomous process. You can find Teqram in Hall 13, Stand F182.
