💡 Groundbreaking Designs in Miniaturization and Durability​


Contrinex has expanded its "Smart Measurement" sensor range with miniature designs and highly durable variants featuring ActivStone® coating. Now, miniature flat-pack sensors with a 2 mm sensing distance and non-flush M30 sensors offering up to 40 mm sensing distance are available in one-piece stainless steel housings. These sensors provide real-time process control without interrupting the production flow for tasks such as double-sheet detection or tool changes in machine tools.

The new sensors are fully compatible with all common IO-Link masters. Commissioning can be done in minutes via a dedicated code-free application. Especially for harsh environments exposed to high heat and splashes, such as welding cells, Contrinex offers flexible connection options with PTFE protective hoses resistant to continuous operating temperatures up to 200°C or 260°C and highly resistant to magnetic interference fields.

The camera supports pre-loaded use cases and integrates seamlessly into assembly and logistics lines via IO-Link, enabling cost-effective implementation of image processing solutions.

🔬 Technical Details: The Heart of Smart Sensors​


Contrinex's Smart Measurement sensors are essentially inductive sensors based on the change in the electromagnetic alternating field. While standard inductive switches only provide a binary signal (presence/absence), smart sensors use high-resolution oscillators to calculate the analog distance to the target object in the micrometer range. The implementation of IO-Link (according to IEC 61131-9) allows the transmission of cyclic process data and non-cyclic diagnostic data (e.g., internal sensor temperature or signal quality) via the standard communication cable.

The 3D smart camera uses the principle of active triangulation (Time of Flight or structured light) for depth measurement. Integrated pre-processing ("edge computing") converts raw data into a simple pass/fail signal using local algorithms (e.g., pattern matching or edge inspection). This lightens the load on the higher-level PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and reduces the delay between detection and action, which is vital for use in high-speed logistics lines.
