In 2025, worldwide sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment surged by 15% to $135.1 billion. This increase was driven by continued investments in capacity expansions related to advanced logic, memory, and artificial intelligence (AI).

    ### Global Leading Semiconductor Equipment Market
In the front-end semiconductor equipment market, wafer processing equipment sales increased by 12%, while other front-end segments saw a 13% rise. This growth was primarily supported by investments in advanced logic and memory capacity, as well as AI demand and technology transitions.

The back-end equipment segment also recorded strong growth. Test equipment sales increased by 55%, while assembly and packaging equipment saw a 21% rise. This increase stemmed from the widespread adoption of advanced packaging technologies.

    ### Regional Developments
The Asia region continued to lead in semiconductor equipment spending. China, Taiwan, and Korea accounted for 79% of the global market. China's spending, at $49.3 billion, decreased by only 0.5% compared to the previous year. Taiwan's spending reached $31.5 billion, an increase of 90%. Korea increased its spending by 26% to $25.8 billion.

Japan grew by 22% to reach $9.5 billion, while Europe's spending decreased by 41% to $2.9 billion due to weakness in automotive and industrial demand. North America's spending fell by 20% to $10.9 billion. Other regions saw a 25% increase to $5.2 billion, driven by the expansion of semiconductor manufacturing markets.

    ### SEMI and Data Source
This information is derived from the World Semiconductor Equipment Market Statistics (WWSEMS) report, compiled from data provided by members of SEMI and the Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan (SEAJ). SEMI is an industry association representing the global electronic design and manufacturing supply chain.

To track trends in the semiconductor equipment market, SEMI operates the Equipment Market Data Subscription (EMDS) program, which offers comprehensive market data, including monthly regional reports and annual forecasts.

Ajit Manocha, SEMI President and CEO, emphasized that the 2025 sales figures highlight how AI demand is accelerating interest in leading-edge logic, advanced memory, and high-bandwidth architectures, and how the global ecosystem is increasing its capacity and capabilities to support this wave of innovation.
