Beckhoff Automation offers significant ease of use in distributed I/O systems with its ED series EtherCAT terminals. The new series simplifies installation and maintenance processes with its push-in wiring feature and integrated diagnostics.
### Innovations with the ED Series
The Beckhoff ED series brings practical improvements without changing the existing EtherCAT architecture. It uses a push-in wiring system instead of the classic EL series cage clamp connections. Additionally, diagnostic features accessible via a mobile application facilitate fault detection. The hardware design has also been renewed to provide ease of use and replacement in real systems.
### Technical Specifications
- DIN rail mounting and the same dimensions and part numbering structure as the EL series
- Fast and secure wiring with push-in connections
- Test point for signal control during commissioning and in case of faults
- Large release lever to easily remove the module from the DIN rail
- Read-only diagnostic data accessible by scanning the barcode on the front with a Beckhoff Bluetooth communication module and mobile application
- Full compatibility with older EtherCAT networks and EL series modules
- Usability alongside the EL series in TwinCAT 3 environments
### System Compatibility and Modernization
The ED series aims to build upon, rather than completely replace, the EL series. Both series can be used together within the same EtherCAT network, allowing for gradual system updates. New ESI files are required in the software for the new modules to operate, which means program updates for system integration.
### User Advantages
Push-in wiring reduces installation time, while the test point facilitates signal verification. The updated hardware improves the modules' handling. Data matrix codes enhance maintenance and spare parts tracking. Thus, Beckhoff maintains product availability with a multi-supplier approach.
The Beckhoff ED series simplifies installation and fault diagnosis processes while maintaining compatibility with older EL modules and existing EtherCAT systems. This new series offers flexible usage possibilities in TwinCAT 3 environments, enabling users to modernize without replacing all I/O hardware.
