Fluke Corporation and Washington State University (WSU) have deepened their collaboration by donating professional-grade test and measurement equipment to five different WSU campuses and establishing the Fluke Engineering Lab at the Everett campus.

This partnership enables students to train on Fluke equipment, better preparing them for the industry. Since Fluke devices are widely used in the sector, students' proficiency with this equipment will not only give them an advantage in employment but also position them as advocates for the adoption of new Fluke equipment.

    ### Challenges in Education

Inadequate, faulty, or complex devices used particularly in undergraduate laboratories cause students to waste time during experiments and lose sight of the experiment's objective. While this can be frustrating for upper-level students, it can even lead new students to change their major.

Design projects are often open-ended and made tangible by relying on numerical data. However, a lack of equipment leads to limitations in designs and insufficient data collection.

    ### Benefits of the Fluke-WSU Partnership

    • Professional test and measurement equipment donated to five campuses.
    • Equipment standardized, making controls and displays similar across laboratories.
    • Students can focus on a single equipment type, allowing more time for data collection and analysis.

    ### Fluke Engineering Lab

The Fluke Engineering Lab, opened at the Everett campus, has been equipped with devices capable of precise measurements of objects used in industry, such as thermal cameras, airflow meters, energy loggers, and thermocouple readers. Other campuses (Pullman, Tri-cities, Vancouver, and Global) will also have access to this new equipment.

Additionally, a tool library has been established at the Owen Science and Engineering Library on the Pullman campus. Through this system, students can borrow sensitive measurement equipment for a specified period, much like borrowing a book from the library. This offers a significant opportunity, especially for upper-level students and those working on design projects.

    ### A Bridge Between Education and Industry

Over 4,000 engineering students at WSU will have the opportunity to use Fluke equipment. This will allow students to gain practical experience with real-world devices used in industry, better understand physical phenomena, and receive training with standard devices rather than various and complex ones.

This collaboration between Fluke and WSU stands out as a strong step that will contribute to the development of well-equipped technicians, electricians, and engineers of the future.
