    According to new research, manufacturers have increased their AI investments to such an extent that their focus has shifted from mere automation to a larger physical AI ecosystem that interacts with sensors and physical processes. This means that physical AI has gone "mainstream"!

    🤝 Human-Centric Digital Transformation​


    According to the "Future-Ready Manufacturing: TCS Physical AI Readiness Report" by Mumbai-based Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), manufacturers are using physical AI in human-centric digital transformations. This means that instead of processes replacing the workforce, intelligent systems help employees work more safely, efficiently, and productively. This also supports workforce redeployment in a "human-plus-AI" operating model.

    TCS's survey, conducted in March and April with C-level executives and vice presidents from 300 manufacturing companies in North America and Europe, covers sectors such as automotive, electronics, high-tech manufacturing, industrial equipment, process industries, and aerospace-defense.

    💡 Key Findings​


    • Readiness to Scale: Participants indicate they are preparing to scale physical AI across factories, warehouses, logistics networks, maintenance operations, and quality management environments.
    • Long-Term Investment: No organization plans to decrease physical AI investment; 26% plan to increase spending. This indicates sustainable transformation rather than short-term pilot projects.
    • High Impact in Warehouse Operations: 77% of participants expect a significant or transformative impact in warehouse operations, 75% in assembly and manufacturing operations, and 72% in logistics and material movement.
    • Human-Centric Transformation: 42% expect physical AI to significantly augment the workforce by improving safety and supporting workers in complex, hazardous, or repetitive industrial environments.
    • Early-Stage Adoption, Clear Roadmap: 68% of manufacturers are still in non-deployment or experimental stages. Legacy system integration, data infrastructure, and workforce skills are identified as primary pathways for enterprise-wide deployment.
    • Governance is the Next Frontier: 44% indicate an unclear or no formal accountability structure for physical AI failures, and 40% are unprepared for emerging regulatory requirements. This highlights areas manufacturers need to focus on as deployment accelerates.
