A New Era in Engineering: Digital Twin Validation with Simcenter SCADAS ES
The engineering world is under pressure to accelerate validation processes while meeting complex requirements in multi-physics domains such as acoustics, structural, and thermal. Traditional testing methods, often relying on isolated and single-purpose measurement hardware, create bottlenecks in workflows, complicate multi-channel calibration, and restrict collaboration among distributed engineering teams.
Siemens introduced the Simcenter SCADAS ES hardware to overcome these physical validation barriers. This new system is designed to facilitate digital twin validation and eliminate physical testing bottlenecks.
Flexibility from Lab to Field with Modular Architecture
Simcenter SCADAS ES expands Siemens' test portfolio alongside the robust field platform of Simcenter SCADAS RS. Built on shared modular technology, this hardware adapts to various operational configurations, such as test laboratories, test benches, and mobile testing areas.
- Scalability: Thanks to its modular architecture, engineering teams can incrementally increase channel capacity without changing the core hardware.
- Integrated Design: Signal conditioning, power distribution, and communication routing are integrated into interchangeable modules.
- Remote Access: The multi-user operating software hosted on the hardware runs without the need for external client licenses and offers remote monitoring and validation capabilities via web-based interfaces.
Synchronized Data and Open Ecosystem Integration
Measurement integrity requires continuous data synchronization across multi-physics sensor packages and full audit traceability. Simcenter SCADAS ES provides synchronized, annotated data packages for rapid integration into AI models, digital twin correlations, and finite element simulation routines.
- Test Connect: An open hardware-software data exchange interface shared by the SCADAS ES and SCADAS RS platforms. This allows engineering teams to develop custom applications that communicate directly with acquisition nodes.
- Advanced Analysis: For Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) or structural durability analysis, the hardware integrates with Simcenter Testlab software within the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio.
According to Bruno Massa, Vice President of Simcenter Test Solutions at Siemens Digital Industries Software, this platform helps engineering organizations transition from isolated test workflows to a connected, scalable approach that provides validated, AI-ready data for product validation, digital twin validation, and engineering automation.
Technical Details and Comparisons
Systems in the Simcenter SCADAS family use 24-bit delta-sigma conversion architectures, offering a dynamic range of up to 150 dB and sampling frequencies of up to 204.8 kHz per channel. To maintain phase synchronization between physically separated acquisition frames, precise time-stamping protocols such as IRIG-B and IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol are used.
Simcenter SCADAS ES can be compared with modular instrumentation platforms such as HBK QuantumX and LAN-XI systems, Dewesoft SIRIUS modular instrumentation, and National Instruments PXI Express data acquisition chassis. Providing an open application programming interface via Test Connect creates a vendor-agnostic streaming path that addresses traditional interoperability limitations.
