MVTec has announced the release of HALCON version 26.11, its machine vision software, to meet the increasing demand in industrial inspection. This update integrates artificial intelligence and three-dimensional spatial analysis into the core software, enhancing quality control, defect detection, and robot guidance capabilities in the manufacturing and industrial automation sectors.
🧠Artificial Intelligence and Spatial Recognition
HALCON 26.11 improves the ability to process complex optical data directly in the factory environment. Thanks to advanced AI-based object detection and traditional deterministic pattern recognition mechanisms, engineers can identify specific manufacturing defects or precisely guide robotic effectors. Furthermore, the integration of advanced 3D machine vision tools allows the software to interpret depth data for volumetric inspection, ensuring accurate spatial positioning and metrology in automated assembly lines.
đź”’ Software Lifecycle and Industrial Cybersecurity
To meet the stringent security requirements of modern industrial networks, the software update includes defined protocols for continuous security patches. It also ensures transparent documentation of internal software components, guaranteeing compliance with emerging cybersecurity regulations and supply chain requirements for industrial control systems.
Software distribution is managed through two different release frameworks to meet diverse industrial needs: the "Progress" release, updated semi-annually for environments requiring rapid access to new algorithms, and the "Steady" release, operating on a two-year cycle for highly regulated facilities requiring long-term operational stability. The software will be officially released on November 18, 2026.
đź’ˇ Why HALCON?
MVTec HALCON directly competes with rivals like Cognex VisionPro and Zebra Aurora in the industrial machine vision software market. HALCON stands out with its highly optimized subpixel accuracy in edge extraction and deterministic execution times. While Cognex VisionPro is optimized for its proprietary smart camera and hardware ecosystem, HALCON maintains hardware independence by supporting a wide range of third-party GigE Vision, USB3 Vision, and Camera Link industrial cameras. Additionally, its dual-release lifecycle strategy (Progress and Steady) offers a distinct architectural advantage, allowing system integrators to balance the need for rapid deep learning algorithmic updates with the requirement for multi-year foundational stability in validated production environments.
