🤝 Agility Robotics and FORT Robotics' Safety Initiative
The integration of humanoid robots into shared human workspaces presents significant safety challenges. To overcome these challenges, Agility Robotics and FORT Robotics have joined forces. Their goal is to create an advanced infrastructure for the safe deployment of humanoid robots.
⚙️ Technical Solution and Division of Labor
This collaboration focuses on a three-tiered integrated safety architecture:
- Safety Pendant: An interface that provides manual control of the robot.
- On-Robot Communication: The robot's internal safety systems.
- External Interfaces: Connections that link the robot to the facility's external safety systems.
Agility Robotics focuses on humanoid robot design and in-robot safety integration, while FORT Robotics is responsible for developing external safety communication layers and redundant manual override mechanisms. This ensures both operational continuity and protection during maintenance and autonomous workflows.
🚀 Implementation and Industrial Deployment
This technical solution will be integrated into Agility Robotics' new Digit 5 humanoid robot platform, thereby supporting the scaling of commercial deployments. Engineering teams are working on hardware integration and regulatory compliance assessments. The implementation includes external safety bridges and pendant interfaces that will work in conjunction with in-robot safe human detection systems to ensure compatibility with existing facility infrastructures.
🏭 Industrial Applications and Operational Benefits
Targeted sectors include warehouse logistics, manufacturing, and supply chain operations. This architecture incorporates redundant safety overrides and environmental monitoring capabilities to maintain process stability while working in close proximity to personnel. These engineering choices enhance system reliability, reduce unexpected downtime, and ensure compliance with safety standards during complex material handling tasks.
