TDK and LG Innotek Join Forces
TDK Corporation and LG Innotek have signed a strategic partnership to develop sensor technologies for physical artificial intelligence (AI) systems. This collaboration aims to combine optical module engineering with sensor technologies to create integrated vision and haptic sensing modules for humanoid robots and related industrial applications.
Joint Development for Future Robots
The main focus of the partnership is to develop next-generation sensing modules that support physical AI systems, especially humanoid robots. Targeted application areas include robotics, industrial automation, smart machines, and other systems requiring environmental sensing and physical interaction.
- LG Innotek brings its expertise in optical and ultra-precision module design, while
- TDK provides a broad portfolio of sensing technologies, including inertial sensors, position sensors, and microphones.
This collaboration addresses the growing demand for multi-sensor integration, where different sensing technologies work together to improve environmental awareness and object interaction.
Integrated Sensing Architecture
The companies will conduct joint research to integrate LG Innotek's vision sensing modules with TDK's sensor technologies. The resulting modules aim to combine image capture with motion, position, and acoustic sensing in a unified platform.
The integrated architecture is designed to enhance recognition performance by enabling multiple sensing modalities to operate simultaneously. In addition to visual sensing, the partnership also includes the development of haptic sensing modules that provide robots with a sense of touch for object handling and physical interaction.
Industrial Applications and Future Vision
The developed sensing modules are designed for humanoid robots and other physical AI systems operating in industrial and professional environments. Potential applications include automated material handling, collaborative robotics, inspection systems, and service robots that require accurate environmental recognition and responsive object manipulation.
Noboru Saito, President and CEO of TDK, stated, "TDK is delighted to join forces with LG Innotek, a world leader in physical AI sensing. By combining TDK's diverse core technologies and sensors with LG Innotek's core capabilities, we will add value for our customers and deliver truly revolutionary products to the global market.
