💡 Industry Challenges and Solution Seeking

The semiconductor industry is a critical field requiring continuous production and high efficiency. Automation companies like Atlas Core of Engineers are working intensively to increase the resilience of facilities in this sector and minimize downtime. According to Ahmad Jodeh, owner of Atlas, semiconductor companies are among customers who "never shut down the facility and where interruptions are unacceptable."

⚙️ Reasons for Transitioning from PROFIBUS to PROFINET

Although PROFIBUS was widespread in the industry, it had disadvantages such as bandwidth limitations and troubleshooting difficulties. Jodeh points out these challenges, stating, "Changing a PROFIBUS network without interrupting operations is a stressful and delicate task." Furthermore, the decreasing number of engineers specialized in PROFIBUS poses another problem.

🌍 Global Competition and the Need for Automation

Increasing global competition and the US supporting local production with incentives like the CHIPS and Science Act further increase the need for automation. Jodeh says, "Since labor and material costs are higher in the US, the demand for automation capabilities is greater." At this point, PROFINET plays a significant role by offering higher capacity.

🚀 PROFINET: Speed, Precision, and Durability

Semiconductor companies are transitioning to the PROFINET industrial network protocol to achieve greater speed, precision, and durability in their automation environments. PROFINET ensures high availability and reliability of industrial automation systems by offering device, controller, and network redundancy. Especially network redundancy provides a significant advantage by creating multiple ring topologies, offering alternative communication paths in case of network failures.

    ✅ Reliability and Flexibility

Jodeh states that PROFINET stands out with its "ability to have multiple paths and parallel networks." PROFINET continues to operate even in situations like IP conflicts or incorrect loops. He adds, "With PROFINET, you can have multiple failures before things go offline, and that robust reliability and redundancy are reassuring.
