ABB has partnered with Alcemy, a company specializing in industrial decarbonization, to develop AI-powered cement and concrete quality determination solutions. This partnership aims to enhance process optimization and reduce carbon emissions in cement production by combining ABB's automation and process control expertise with Alcemy's AI and machine learning-based quality prediction technology.
At the core of this collaboration are predictive quality analyses that will be integrated into production facilities. Alcemy's solution will collect process and quality data from ABB Knowledge Manager, analyze it with machine learning models, and provide feedback to ABB Ability Expert Optimizer. This closed-loop approach enables operators to better manage production variability, thereby increasing product consistency and improving plant performance.
Through more precise control of production parameters, the efficiency of raw material and energy utilization increases while process variability decreases. This partnership, which aims to bridge the gap between data and process optimization by combining areas of expertise and emerging technologies, offers efficient and sustainable solutions to the cement industry.
### Advantages of the ABB and Alcemy Partnership
- AI-enhanced quality prediction models
- Integration of ABB Knowledge Manager and Ability Expert Optimizer
- Reduction of production variability with a closed-loop control system
- Increased efficiency in energy and raw material usage
- Reduction of the carbon footprint in global cement production
Bodil Recke, Global Manager of ABB Process Industries Division, stated, "Artificial intelligence is becoming a key enabler for the future of cement production," emphasizing that the combination of ABB's expertise in automation and optimization with Alcemy's industry and AI experience will help cement producers improve performance and contribute to decarbonization goals.
Leopold Spenner, CEO and Co-founder of Alcemy, said, "By partnering with ABB, we are bringing predictive quality analyses closer to production facilities. Our goal is to achieve more consistent results in the cement sector, thereby increasing efficiency and reducing environmental impact."
Within the scope of the partnership, a framework will be established to explore both technical and commercial synergies, and a joint value proposition will be developed for cement and ready-mix concrete customers.
