Siemens Smart Infrastructure has reinforced its leadership in direct current (DC) technology by introducing a comprehensive new portfolio of DC protection and switching solutions. This innovative product range responds to the demand for sustainable and efficient solutions in low-voltage power distribution and industrial switching technologies.
The new portfolio includes products such as the SENTRON 3QD2 semiconductor circuit breaker and the SIRIUS 3RF5 solid-state switching device. These solutions are critical, especially in high-performance applications like data centers, AI factories, manufacturing facilities, and battery storage systems. They also facilitate renewable energy integration.
DC systems, increasingly common instead of AC (Alternating Current), reduce losses from energy conversion and enable direct integration of renewable energy sources. Siemens continues its leadership in this transformation through R&D efforts and active participation in initiatives like the Open Direct Current Alliance (ODCA) and Current/OS.
### SENTRON 3QD2 Features
- Ultra-fast short-circuit interruption in microseconds with semiconductor technology and intelligent protection algorithms
- 1000 times faster response time compared to conventional systems
- Offers protection, switching, monitoring, and energy management in a single compact unit
- Ensures a long service life with its maintenance-free design and absence of mechanical wear
- Guarantees maximum plant availability for critical infrastructures
The SIRIUS 3RF5, as the first solid-state switching device designed for DC applications, offers a robust and low-wear solution for high-frequency resistive load switching. With the Siemens EcoTech label, it also emphasizes sustainability and transparent product design.
### Advantages of DC Technology
- Up to 80% reduction in peak power consumption
- Up to 50% savings in cabling and busbar material usage
- Elimination of reactive power compensation needs
- High efficiency with energy recovery and storage
Siemens will showcase this new portfolio at Hannover Messe 2026, in Hall 27, stand A48.
