    ## Programmable Position Sensor for Grippers and Compact Actuators from Festo

Festo has launched the SDAC-MHS C-slot programmable position transmitter, which combines analog, digital, and IO-Link outputs in a single compact sensor. This innovation offers ease of installation and space savings, especially in machine designs with limited space.

The SDAC-MHS sensor eliminates the need for multiple sensing components to monitor the positions of pneumatic cylinders and grippers. It precisely detects the position of the magnetic piston and transmits it to the PLC with a repeat accuracy of 0.2 mm. It provides a flexible and reliable solution for applications such as product/faulty selection, pressing, riveting, and ultrasonic welding.

    ### SDAC-MHS Technological Advantages

    • Two different sizes, 20 mm and 30 mm, compatible with Festo's common gripper and compact cylinder stroke lengths
    • Detects full piston stroke and end positions without exceeding the cylinder body
    • Replaces two cylinder switches with a single sensor, offering analog position feedback and two programmable digital switching outputs
    • Combines analog current output, digital switching outputs, and IO-Link communication in one sensor

    ### Technical Specifications

    • Sensing ranges: Approx. 20 mm (analog version), 30 mm (IO-Link version)
    • Repeat accuracy: 0.2 mm
    • Linearity error: ±2 mm
    • Resolution: Approx. 0.05 mm (analog), Approx. 0.012 mm (IO-Link)
    • Analog output: 0–10 V
    • Operating voltage: DC 10–30 V
    • Mounting: Attaches to the C-slot of the gripper or cylinder
    • Protection classes: IP65, IP68
    • Cable and port: 30 cm cable, M8 4-pin connector

This sensor reduces the number of components, simplifying assembly and maintenance in machines, while delivering performance in applications requiring high precision and flexibility.
