GUSS, in collaboration with John Deere, has developed autonomous spraying machines for orchards and vineyards. These technologies reduce labor costs, decrease chemical use, and enhance crop protection.
John Deere has fully acquired GUSS Automation, a California-based company. GUSS is known for its autonomous spraying machines in orchards and vineyards, with over 250 devices in use worldwide. With this technology, one operator can remotely control up to eight machines simultaneously, thereby reducing labor costs while increasing safety and efficiency. Products include GUSS, MINI GUSS, and HERBICIDE GUSS, all powered by Deere engines. Furthermore, integration with precision agriculture technologies like Smart Apply® will enable smarter, data-driven spraying for high-value crops.
The acquisition of GUSS Automation aims to address labor shortages and reduce costs in the agricultural sector. Founded in 2018, GUSS provides precise and efficient spraying services using GPS, LiDAR, and specialized software. At the same time, a single operator can manage 8 machines, simplifying workflows for family or large-scale farms.
GUSS models include three versions to suit different needs:

John Deere’s acquisition of GUSS Automation brings autonomous sprayers into its portfolio to help growers tackle labor shortages and rising input costs.
All are powered by John Deere’s 4.5L, 173 HP Stage V diesel engines, capable of 12-14 hours of continuous operation. GUSS devices will continue to be sold exclusively through Deere dealerships; additionally, this technology will be integrated with data-driven, sensor-based spraying systems like Smart Apply®, reducing chemical and water use by up to 50%.
The production and maintenance services for GUSS will continue at the Kingsburg factory in California. With this step, Deere gains direct access to high-value agricultural regions in the US, investing in technological development to continue providing solutions tailored to farmers' needs.

HERBICIDE GUSS spraying for ground-level weed control.

GUSS sprayers will now be integrated with Smart Apply® for targeted, data-driven spraying.

- GUSS: A high-capacity, full-sized autonomous sprayer designed for wide coverage in large areas.
- MINI GUSS: Smaller and lighter, highly maneuverable, suitable for narrow-row orchards and vineyards.
- HERBICIDE GUSS: A GPS and LiDAR-supported herbicide machine for ground-level weed control, providing precise spraying that reduces drift.
