Leuze Expands LBK Radar with CIP Safety for Harsh Environments

Leuze has added CIP Safety integration to the LBK 3D radar safety system. This allows for easy integration into EtherNet/IP networks and offers more reliable solutions compared to optical sensors. Ideal for those working in environments with dust, smoke, and high particulate matter, the radar system reduces false alarms and shutdowns by ceasing to detect static objects like pallets. The LBK's new CIP Safety-enabled interface allows safety signals to be sent over standard EtherNet/IP, simplifying wiring and PLC integration. It also facilitates system diagnostics and ignores static objects (pallets, boxes, etc.), detecting only actual human presence.

Robustness and Reliability in Harsh Environmental Conditions

3D radar technology continues to detect without being affected by external factors such as dust, smoke, and ambient light. One controller supports up to six sensors, and with a four-channel configuration, a total of 24 sensors can be used. This allows large areas, AGV routes, crane paths, or material handling points to be secured. The radar distinguishes between people and static objects (pallets, containers), ensuring accurate detection even in difficult conditions.

In LBKs, one controller supports six sensors. Without the need for programming, you can easily set areas, range, and direction with the LBK Designer software. Compatible with CIP Safety, PROFIsafe, and FSoE protocols, the system ensures seamless integration into existing safety infrastructures.
