## Compact Speed Starter with Integrated Safety Function

Phoenix Contact has added a compact speed starter to its Contactron series, offering variable speed control for motors up to 7.5 kW and functional safety up to SIL 3/PLe level.

The new Contactron speed starter combines simple wiring, user-friendly operation, and integrated safety functions to variably control the speed of three-phase motors. This innovation is specifically designed for industrial applications with high functional safety requirements.

### Variable Speed Control and Definable Speed Levels

• Motor speed can be adjusted via an analog input, allowing for flexible speed changes according to process requirements.
• Up to four fixed speed levels can be parametrically defined, ensuring repeatable and precise operating conditions.
• Parametrically definable acceleration and deceleration ramps customize start-up and braking behavior, reducing mechanical stress on drive components and optimizing process performance.

### Integrated Safety up to SIL 3/PLe

• The integrated Safe Torque Off (STO) function cuts off power to the motor, ensuring immediate torque removal.
• The device supports safety levels SIL 3 according to IEC 61508 and Performance Level e (PLe) according to ISO 13849-1, making it suitable for safety-critical machine and plant applications.
• For motor outputs of 4.0 kW and above, a braking resistor connection is available for safe dissipation of braking energy.

### EMC Option and System Integration

• The device can optionally include an integrated EMC filter to reduce electromagnetic interference, offering compatible operation in various industrial environments.
• Function blocks are available within the PLCnext Library, facilitating integration into existing automation systems and enabling standardized commissioning and control structure integration.

With this new product in its Contactron portfolio, Phoenix Contact offers a compact drive solution that combines variable speed control, functional safety, and simplified installation in a single device.
