    ## Global Silicon Wafer Shipments Up in 2025, Revenues See Slight Dip

Global silicon wafer shipments increased in 2025 driven by strong AI-powered demand, while revenues reported a slight decrease.

MILPITAS, California – February 10, 2026 – Global silicon wafer shipments rose 5.8% to 12,973 million square inches (MSI) in 2025, while wafer revenues declined 1.2% to $11.4 billion, according to the 2025 year-end analysis released by the SEMI Silicon Manufacturers Group (SMG).

2025 stands out as a pivotal year for silicon wafer shipments. MSI continued to grow due to strong demand, primarily driven by AI applications, including advanced epitaxial wafers and polished wafers for high-bandwidth memory (HBM).

The slight softening in revenues is attributed to the demand and pricing environment in traditional semiconductor applications not yet having fully recovered.

    ### Assessment by Ginji Yada, Chairman of SEMI SMG

Ginji Yada, Chairman of SEMI SMG and Assistant General Manager of Sales and Marketing at SUMCO Corporation, stated that the 2025-2026 silicon wafer market is being shaped by differentiating trends across technology nodes. 300mm wafers are experiencing strong demand, especially in advanced applications such as AI-powered logic and HBM.

Yada noted that the adoption of sub-3nm processes has increased requirements for quality and consistency, reinforcing the need for advanced material solutions. Investments in data centers and generative AI continue to support demand in leading-edge segments that require high performance and reliability.

In contrast, wafer and chip inventories in mature node applications such as automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics have begun to normalize. While demand recovery is sensitive to macroeconomic factors and market dynamics, the pace of improvement remains moderate.
