## Expansion in Radar Level Measurement for Industrial Applications
KROHNE has expanded its OPTIWAVE 15XX series with a new version featuring a local display and the SCU 200 control unit, focusing on modular level measurement solutions in water and wastewater applications.
KROHNE has strengthened its radar level measurement product range within the OPTIWAVE 15xx series with two new developments: a local display version for the OPTIWAVE 1540 and 1560 models, and the SCU 200 process controller, compatible with all devices in the series. These components create modular automation solutions for level measurement applications in the water and wastewater sectors.
### Development of the OPTIWAVE 15xx Series on the 80 GHz Radar Platform
Introduced in June 2024, the OPTIWAVE 15xx series was developed as an entry-level solution based on 80 GHz radar technology for standard liquid and solid applications. The devices feature a PVDF lens antenna that is perfectly matched to the surface, providing integration into modern automation structures and the industrial digital supply chain via HART and Bluetooth connectivity.
The new local display version allows for direct viewing of measurement values on-site without requiring additional external interfaces, providing quick on-the-spot feedback. Compact design, robust construction, and easy commissioning with the OPTICHECK Level mobile application are among the key features of the OPTIWAVE 15xx series.
### Signal Processing and Local Automation with the SCU 200 Control Unit
The SCU 200 is designed as a versatile signal processing and control unit for 4…20 mA field devices. It processes measurement values and offers signal and automation functions such as dual totalizers, pulse output, sampling, and pump control.
Compatible with KROHNE's OPTIWAVE radar level transmitters, OPTIFLEX guided radar devices, and OPTIBAR pressure sensors, the controller powers connected field devices, eliminating the need for additional power supply electronics. Clearly labeled terminals simplify wiring, while the robust IP67-protected GRP housing is suitable for wall, field, or panel mounting.
The configurable display includes functions such as LED display illumination, color change, trend indication, relay status, and alarm signaling. Parameter settings are made via a standard USB-C cable and dedicated software.
### Applications in Water Management and Modernization of Existing Systems
The combination of OPTIWAVE 15xx radar devices and the SCU 200 controller is particularly suitable for pump stations and wastewater pits. When used with the OPTIWAVE 1540, open channel flow measurement is also supported, offering an alternative to traditional ultrasonic systems.
This modular structure provides turnkey solutions for the modernization of existing facilities, ensuring reliable measurement, modern connectivity, and flexible integration options. Furthermore, operational needs are met with cost-effective positioning.
