## Data Collection and Legacy Equipment Connection Made Easy with Omron DX100 Edge Device
Omron has developed a solution that seamlessly integrates OT data collection with IT communication on the production line using the DX100 Data Flow Edge device. The new device can connect to existing equipment and offers a low-code programming environment for quick setup.
In factories, OT operations produce goods, while IT operations manage the company's technology infrastructure. These two areas are increasingly converging as management wants process and machine data to be accessible. Edge devices act as a bridge between I/O devices on the factory floor and the IT infrastructure.
Omron Automation's DX100 device can connect directly to I/O devices and PLCs via industrial protocols such as Ethernet/IP. This allows it to perform data collection, transmission, and display operations directly.
### DX100 Technical Specifications
- Ability to store, communicate, and display data from automation equipment
- Two isolated Ethernet ports
- USB port for flash memory
- 64 GB internal memory
- DIN rail mounting and use of NJ-PD3001-DC power supply
The DX100 is designed to be easily integrated into existing facilities with equipment that lacks data collection capabilities. It can connect to existing PLCs and collect process data without modifying machine code. The collected data can be viewed via the device's web server or transferred to IT infrastructure or cloud services.
The SpeedBee flowchart logic, powered by Omron Synapse, offers low-code programming using drag-and-drop function blocks. This allows designers and programmers to create custom dashboards by collecting data from other PLCs or I/O devices on the network.
Data can be transferred to SQL servers or directly to cloud storage via the MQTT protocol. The DX100 can also subscribe to MQTT servers to collect data from various systems across the factory.
### DX100 Software and Visualization Features
- Live and customizable dashboards created with the pre-installed Grafana interface
- Graphs and dashboards can be hosted directly on the DX100 and accessed via a standard browser using its IP address
The data generated by production equipment enables engineers to perform performance evaluations and ensure quality control. While data can be permanently lost if not collected, the DX100 collects and analyzes this data, which can then be used for quality anomalies or predictive maintenance. This device empowers all factories, small, large, and legacy, with data collection capabilities.
