    ## Yaskawa Triton: A Multi-Protocol Card Unifying Industrial Communication and Motion Control

Yaskawa has introduced its new PCIe-based multi-protocol TRITON platform, which integrates industrial communication, motion control, and PLC functionality into a single hardware architecture.

The new TRITON (YRCP/MP4P) card, built around the ProfiChip Triton CPU developed by the Drives Motion Controls Division, offers an integrated automation solution encompassing Gigabit Ethernet communication control, PLC functions, backplane master capabilities, and motion control.

    ### Integrated Architecture and Real-Time Applications
TRITON is not designed as a traditional fieldbus adapter but as a complete industrial hardware system that combines real-time communication, motion control, and PLC logic into a single high-performance platform. The dedicated TRITON industrial processor consolidates functions that previously required separate hardware onto one platform, thereby reducing system complexity.

The card can be used as a real-time controller for robots or industrial machines, a high-performance fieldbus node, a PLC and motion control platform in industrial Ethernet environments, or an interface/gateway to external systems. Its architecture is designed to support future expansions such as IoT integration and Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN).

    ### Protocol Support and System Integration
In terms of communication, TRITON supports PROFINET in IO-Device and IO-Controller modes, including PROFIsafe communication, as well as EtherCAT in slave mode. It is compatible with the YRC1000 controller from YAS5.70 onwards (PROFINET support from YAS5.50) and the YRC1000micro from YBS4.21 onwards.

The card architecture features physically separated networks for master and slave functions, enhancing deterministic communication and supporting compliance with evolving industrial safety requirements and European regulatory standards.

    ### Yaskawa's European Development and Proprietary Hardware
TRITON is an entirely proprietary Yaskawa product, with hardware and software developed and manufactured in Germany, ensuring direct integration with the Drives Motion Controls engineering teams. This direct control offers advantages in terms of technological development and long-term compatibility with existing automation ecosystems.

    ### Consolidation of Automation Platforms
With TRITON, Yaskawa offers a solution that can replace multiple cards, simplifying technical support, logistics, and supply chain management. The integration of industrial communication, motion control, and PLC functionality into a single architecture is indicative of a shift towards more compact, flexible, and scalable automation platforms for digital manufacturing environments.
