## RFID Locking System for Modular Machine Connectors
For the security of cable chain connections in industrial equipment, igus has developed a new RFID-based locking solution for its Module Connect modular connector system.
In many production environments, unauthorized interventions at connector interfaces, especially at the cable chain connection point, can lead to equipment downtime, additional service operations, and increased maintenance costs. igus's new RFID lock is designed to enhance the security of these critical connections and prevent unauthorized access.
### RFID Locking System Features
- Developed as a retrofit security lock for the Module Connect interface
- Clips directly onto the existing connector interface and is mechanically secured with a metal locking pin
- Access is granted with an authorized RFID card; prevents unauthorized personnel from disconnecting
- Integrated microcontroller performs RFID authentication and optionally keeps access logs
- Logging function supports maintenance documentation, traceability, and quality management processes
- Enables quick integration with tool-free assembly
- Easily adapted to existing machines or production lines thanks to its compact design
- Modular design consolidates power, data, and media into a single connection point
- Different lines such as power cables, bus systems, fiber optics, and pneumatic hoses can be used together
- Reduces installation time by up to 80% compared to traditional wiring methods
- Customizable interface configuration with a maximum of four modular electrical, optical, or pneumatic inserts
- Ideal design for high contact density and limited installation spaces
- Fast system changes and maintenance with tool-free component assembly
igus's innovative RFID locking system aims to enhance operational efficiency and ease of maintenance by increasing connection security in both compact machines and large industrial installations.
