    ## Nabtesco's New Short Strain Wave Reducers: Innovation in Power Density

Nabtesco is increasing power density with its new short strain wave reducers developed for robotics and precision automation. These new products promise higher torque capacity and longer service life in compact sizes, boosting performance without expanding installation space.

Strain wave reducers are widely used in robotic systems, medical devices, and precision positioning applications. The new short-body models increase torque density while also extending service life. Traditional short model reducers being approximately 65% shorter offers an advantage for compact robot joints and systems, but often came with the disadvantage of lower torque capacity and shorter lifespan.

Nabtesco's new short reducers offer a 120% increase in power density and a 140% increase in service life compared to standard short models. The service life extends from the industry standard of 7,000 hours to 10,000 hours. Furthermore, thanks to higher nominal torque, repeatable peak torque, acceleration torque, and torque limits during emergency stops increase by approximately 20%. This allows for smaller or lighter designs while maintaining the necessary load margins in dynamic robot axes.

    ### Application Areas of Short Strain Wave Reducers

Short models are designed especially for applications where axial mounting space is limited but high torque is required. This includes compact actuators in humanoid robots, cobots, exoskeleton wearable systems, and medical devices. In the medical field, their use is prominent in systems such as surgical robots, dental milling machines, and optical adjustment mechanisms.

    ### Technical Specifications

    • Torque range: Between 4.5 Nm and 115 Nm
    • Design types: Hat type (HTG) and cup type (CTG)
    • Housing: Hollow shaft structure, suitable for cable and hose routing
    • Service life: 10,000 hours (market standard 7,000 hours)
    • Power density: 120% of standard short models
    • Manufacturing quality: IATF 16949 certified automotive standards, Ovalo GmbH, Limburg (Lahn)

    ### Conclusion

Nabtesco's new short strain wave reducers offer powerful solutions in compact robotic and automation systems. Thanks to increased torque capacity and extended service life, designers can achieve higher performance within the same mounting space. This boosts productivity, reduces system downtime, and improves equipment availability.
